The principal academic body of SECT — overseeing curriculum, evaluation, research, and student welfare to uphold and continuously raise the standards of academic excellence.

Functions & Responsibilities

The Academic Council is the apex academic body of the institution, responsible for all matters related to teaching, examination, research, and student development. Its key functions include:

Promotes the overall academic affairs of the institute and provides direction on methods of instruction, evaluation, and research to improve academic standards.

Considers matters of academic interest — on its own initiative or at the instance of the Governing Council — and takes proper action on them.
03
Approves proposals and regulations recommended by the Board of Studies on academic regulations, framing of syllabus, and evaluation methods.
04
Introduces value-added courses and certificate courses required to meet evolving industry needs and emerging technology requirements.
05
Prescribes courses of study leading to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees of the institute and develops regulations for student admissions based on government policies.
06
Formulates guidelines for the conduct of examinations in conformity with the bye-laws of the institute and the affiliating university, and maintains proper examination standards.
07
Develops guidelines for sports, extracurricular activities, maintenance and functioning of playgrounds and hostels.
08
Promotes research within the institute and acquires reports on such research from time to time for further guidance, advice, and departmental coordination.
09
Ratifies and resolves the minutes of the Board of Studies.

Makes recommendations to the Governing Council for:
  • Inception of new courses
  • Measures for improvements in standards of teaching, training & research
  • Institution of fellowships, travelling fellowships, scholarships, medals & prizes
  • Establishment or discontinuation of courses / centres and academic bye-laws
